Using the pseudo elastic and dynamic damping properties of shape memory alloy, shape memory alloy is used to passively control the structure under the influence of earthquake. It should be applied to active damping control of structural vibration.

Daily life

(a) Anti scald valve in family life, the developed shape memory valve can be used to prevent accidental scalding of hot water in the sink, bathtub and bathroom; these valves can also be used in hotels and other suitable places. If the water temperature from the faucet reaches the temperature that may scald people (about 48 ℃), the shape memory alloy drives the valve to close, and the valve will not reopen until the water temperature drops to the safe temperature.

(b) TiNi Alloy on the bridge of nose and ear of spectacle frame can make people feel comfortable and wear resistant. Because of its flexibility, TiNi alloy has been widely used to change the fashion field of spectacles. Using the super elastic TiNi alloy wire as the spectacle frame, the shape memory alloy wire can clamp the spectacle by the super elastic constant force even if the lens is thermally expanded. These super elastic alloy frames have great deformation ability, but ordinary frames can't.

(c) Another application of shape memory alloy is to use super elastic TiNi wire as cellular telephone antenna for mobile phone antenna and fire inspection valve. In the past, stainless steel antenna was often damaged due to bending. Using TiNi shape memory alloy wire mobile phone antenna, which has high damage resistance, is widely welcomed by people. Therefore, it is often used to make cellular telephone antenna and fire inspection valve. In the fire, when the local temperature rises, the valve will automatically close to prevent the dangerous gas from entering. The advantage of this special structure design is that it can check the operation of the valve and then reset to a safe state; this fire check valve is used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, and toxic gases are used in the diffusion process of semiconductor manufacturing; this fire check valve can also be used in chemical and petroleum plants.

Other

The potential of TiNi shape memory alloy as sound insulation material and seismic damage detection and control has been shown in the field of engineering and construction. The application in bridges and buildings has been tested, so it has become a new application field as sound insulation material and detection damage control.

With the appearance, development and utilization of thin film shape memory alloy materials, shape memory alloy is highly valued in intelligent material system and has a broader application prospect.
